Rock Valley College

Campus Master Plan

Rock Valley College engaged DKA to work with the college to update its current Facilities Master Plan, and to develop a planning process that would incorporate input from numerous stakeholder groups throughout the College as well as throughout the community-at-large. Once this input was gathered through a series of focus group meetings and electronic surveys, it was combined with an in-depth analysis of existing conditions throughout the College District to develop a prioritized list of issues to be addressed throughout the updated Master Plan. These issues were grouped into the following categories:

  • Circulation Issues
  • Programmatic Expansion/Upgrade Issues
  • Overall Programmatic Issues
  • Campus Environment/Image Issues
  • Faculty Space Issues
  • District-Wide Expansion

Through a series of highly interactive meetings, various concept alternatives were developed and reviewed until a consensus plan was ultimately identified and formalized. Some of the key planning issues include:

  • A New Classroom Building and Associated Parking
  • A New Arts Instructional Center and Associated Parking
  • An Addition to the Student Center
  • An Addition to the Technology Center
  • Reconfiguration of Parking and Vehicular Circulation
  • Development of the Campus Green
