McHenry County College

Liebman Science Center

After an in-depth study of the existing science facilities at McHenry County College along with an evaluation of overall space needs for the future, a new Science Center was identified as a priority need for the campus.

Located along the north edge of the campus core, the new two-story facility is internally connected to the rest of the campus by a glassy connecting link.  The structure is positioned in the east-west direction in order to preserve the existing tree-line to the south and to take full advantage of views to and from the facility.  A new two-story lobby with vertical glass fins anchors the east end of the building and creates a new campus entry point along with student collaboration space, while a backlit, celestial graphic highlights the north elevation at the facility’s new planetarium.

The new spaces within the facility include:

  • Anatomy & Physiology Labs
  • Cadaver Lab
  • General Biology Lab
  • Microbiology Lab
  • Earth Science Labs
  • General Chemistry Lab
  • Organic Chemistry Lab
  • Physics Lab
  • Planetarium
  • Resource Lab
  • Lecture Classrooms
