After an in-depth study of the existing science facilities at McHenry County College along with an evaluation of overall space needs for the future, a new Science Center was identified as a priority need for the campus.
Located along the north edge of the campus core, the new two-story facility is internally connected to the rest of the campus by a glassy connecting link. The structure is positioned in the east-west direction in order to preserve the existing tree-line to the south and to take full advantage of views to and from the facility. A new two-story lobby with vertical glass fins anchors the east end of the building and creates a new campus entry point along with student collaboration space, while a backlit, celestial graphic highlights the north elevation at the facility’s new planetarium.
