Joliet Junior College identified the need for a new campus building to accommodate the expanding student population, and improve upon the outdated facilities at college’s Romeoville Campus. The new building will serve the college as a new Student Services Center along with added academic spaces, inclusive of the following functions:
The building is organized into two linear wings, with the student services spaces located on the first floor and the academic spaces located on the second floor. The two wings intersect to create a central, triangular shaped, light-filled commons space which supports the adjacent dining, café, and lounge functions.
Through its organization and relationship to the campus, the new facility has been oriented to serve as the new front door to the college and provides a visible and welcoming approach with a new vehicular and pedestrian access. Areas of glass and transparency, incorporated into the building’s exterior, enhance the welcoming image of the facility and also provide abundant natural light into the interior spaces.
