The design team worked closely with the Leadership, Facilities and User Groups at Bradley University through a programming exercise, benchmarking tours of similar facilities, and a design process to create a unique building to support their specific vision of attracting new students by providing students with a facility that is superior to the recreation centers of competing Universities.
The free-zone corridor links the two student entries on campus while the curve in this connecting link allows circulation between the existing main quad on campus and a future quad planned when the campus expands. The three-story climbing wall, pool, and gymnasium are all on display for immediate view once entering the facility and the new Recreation Center has become the highlight for prospective student tours.
