Black Hawk College

As part of the Campus Master Plan prepared by DKA, a new Athletic Field Complex was identified.  The baseball field and softball field were in need of significant upgrades to address safety concerns for student-athletes as well as additional amenities to support athletic training needs and improve the spectator experience.

In order to create a unified Athletic Field Complex with state-of-the-art facilities for student-athletes, the existing baseball field was re-oriented and the existing softball field was relocated from one side of campus to the other side adjacent to the baseball field.  Both ball fields have been outfitted with artificial turf and lighting.  New dugouts, storage facilities and batting cages have been incorporated to support the athletics program. The existing soccer field was also upgraded and integrated as part of the overall complex.

Public spaces between the fields were designed to create a dynamic environment and enhance the fan experience by utilizing a network of pathways, terraces and viewpoints.  New stadium seating with press boxes have been integrated into the natural slope of the site.  A concessions and support building serves the dual purpose of providing services to fans as well as creating a gateway into the Athletic Field Complex, offering sweeping views of the fields from its elevated location on the site.
